Private Camping at Butcombe New Wood

campfire

By booking your 2025 stay at Butcombe New Wood you will be supporting our creation of five acres of new woodland. It’s managed for conservation, we don’t use any herbicides or other chemicals. Since we planted the woodland in 2015 we’ve used it as an occasional campsite for family and friends and from summer 2020 we opened it to the public for small group bookings of up to 14 people.

You will have exclusive access to 5 acres of new woodland with a hilltop clearing for your tents giving views over the valley and Blagdon Lake. Only one group will use the site at a time. The campsite is serviced before you arrive.

Licencing rules for this site mean we can only open for a limited number of nights each. Once we reach our target number of bookings we will close our books, even though our availability calendar had lots of available dates. So if you want to stay, please book early to avoid disappointment.

The site:

  • Butcombe New Wood is a 5 acre site (that’s 4.53 football fields) which was planted as a new native woodland by the owner in conjunction with The Woodland Trust in 2015. It’s growing well and is being managed for conservation. Along with the trees it supports wild flowers, grasses and wildlife including deer, badgers, rabbits and many birds. Look out for glow worms too just after dark. The site forms part of a continuous natural habitat with the Blagdon Lake estate of over 440 acres classed as an SSSI.
  • The site is surrounded on three sides by farm fields generally used for sheep. The fourth side is a wooded valley with a stream leading to Blagdon Lake (about 300m away)
